Hi, this is similar to Another Post which alas had no answers.
I’m attempting to modify the boot menu itself.
Can change the boot behavior (copytoram, auto-login, etc.) via the sysrescue-customize script, but have not discerned how to change the actual menu items presented.
The script is also good at modifying root’s environment, changing the prompt, adding SSH keys, etc. All that works fine, just not changing the initial GRUB menu.
(Trying to add srm /boot entries via the recipe has no effect, which makes sense, as one normally has to actually update grub to have them take effect.)
The goal is to create a stripped down USB stick that would auto-boot and leave the remote user not logged in. I can get in via SSH (assuming the port is open on their router) and TS fixing stuff remotely.
Specifically I’m trying to modify GRUB_BACKGROUND, GRUB_TIMEOUT, and the menu items themselves. Modifying this on a live USB stick has proved to be challenging.
I did get as far as creating a writeable USB stick, but ran into issues when attempting to reinstall grub.
Given how flexible the customize method is though, that seems like overkill.
Any insight in accomplishing this would be most appreciated. Thanks!
